Health and safety

Smoking, vaping or drug consumption is strictly not permitted on site and throughout the tour time. Should the guest are suspected to be intoxicated or under any drug influence, which exhibit any form of abusiveness or harassment, be it verbal or physical towards any staffs or equipments; Chameleon Stargazing has zero tolerance in such behaviour and the guest will be instructed to leave the tour, and no refund will be given in this case.

Clothing

We strongly encourage you to wear warm clothes or bring an extra blanket to use during the experience all year round, as the temperature in Lake Tekapo can be unpredictable.

Please wear closed-toes shoes during the tour; we recommend you to have snow boots or multiple layers of socks in winter.

Please do not wear light-up shoes, as this will affect our night visions significantly and disrupt the tour.

Light pollution

In order to reduce as much light pollution as possible, you may be required not to use white lights, such as flashlights.

Please do not use any torch light or your phone flashlight during the tour.

Weather condition

Weather conditions are very changeable in the Mackenzie basin, we cannot guarantee a perfect cloudless sky. A full refund will be offered to guests if the service is cancelled due to weather conditions (cloud, rain, snow, fog). The decision to cancel is at the discretion of Chameleon Stargazing, which will be made half an hour before the tour starts..

Please note that the moon is a significant feature of our night sky. While a bright moon may reduce star visibility compared to moonless nights, we will not cancel tours due to moonlight conditions. Each experience is unique and offers its own beauty.

Cancellation and appointment transfer

For Signature Tours, guests who wish to cancel their tour will receive a full refund* whereas any appointment transfer requests can be sent to info@chameleonstargazing.com. Please note both cancellation and transfer will require a 24 hours notice before your tour time.

For Private Tours, guests who wish to cancel their tour will receive a full refund* whereas any appointment transfer requests can be sent to info@chameleonstargazing.com. Please note both cancellation and transfer will require a 7 days notice before your tour time.

Chameleon Stargazing has the right to cancel or change the duration of the service due to extreme weather conditions or technical issues, in this case, you will get a full refund or be transferred to another date.

* Credit Card Transaction Fee Policy
All bookings made via credit card are subject to a 1.7% transaction fee. Please note that this fee is non-refundable, including in the case of cancellations or refunds.

Minimum Age Requirement
For safety and enjoyment reasons, our tours are only suitable for adults and children aged 5 y/o and above. We’re unable to accommodate younger children at this time—thank you for your understanding.
